The Linshang LS211, LS212 and LS213 are handheld ultrasonic thickness gauges for non-destructive measurement of metal, plastic, glass, ceramics and other materials that transmit ultrasonic waves. Using the pulse-echo method and a dual-crystal probe, they measure material or wall thickness from one accessible side of the workpiece.
All three models support coating-penetration measurement, interchangeable probes, Bluetooth data transfer, PC software, QC inspection and statistical analysis. They are designed for corrosion monitoring, pipe and tank inspection, shipbuilding, industrial maintenance and material quality control.
Non-Destructive Wall Thickness Measurement
The gauges calculate thickness from the material’s sound velocity and the travel time of the ultrasonic pulse. Only one side of the component needs to be accessible, making the instruments suitable for inspecting pipes, tanks, pressure vessels, steel structures and installed equipment without cutting the workpiece.
Measure Through Paint and Coatings
When used with the standard probe, the coating-penetration mode measures the underlying substrate without including the paint or coating layer in the thickness result. This helps improve corrosion and remaining-wall assessments without removing the surface coating.
Four Probe Types for Different Applications
-
Standard 5MHz probe: General thickness measurements on conventional workpieces.
-
Micro-diameter 7MHz probe: Small surfaces, narrow contact areas and thinner workpieces, with measurements from 0.75mm to 80mm on 45# steel.
-
Coarse-crystal 2MHz probe: Cast iron and materials with large or coarse internal grains, with a 3mm–200mm range on 45# steel.
-
High-temperature 5MHz probe: Workpieces with surface temperatures up to 500°C, with a 3mm–200mm range on 45# steel.
The instrument automatically identifies the connected probe and adapts the operating interface accordingly. Probe types can therefore be selected for conventional surfaces, small components, coarse-grained materials or elevated-temperature inspections.
Switchable Gain for Difficult Materials
Adjustable gain amplifies weaker return echoes from materials with less favorable ultrasonic transmission. This helps the operator obtain a stable signal when testing different metals and non-metallic materials.
Model Differences & Selection
-
LS211: The extended-range model, measuring from 0.8mm to 600mm on 45# steel with the standard probe. Resolution reaches 0.001mm between 0.8mm and 10mm. Choose it for thick steel components, large blocks, tanks and applications requiring the widest measurement range.
-
LS212: Measures from 0.8mm to 350mm with the standard probe while retaining 0.001mm resolution from 0.8mm to 10mm. Choose it when fine resolution is important but measurements above 350mm are not required.
-
LS213: Provides the same 0.8mm–350mm standard-probe range with 0.01mm resolution from 0.8mm to 100mm. Choose it for routine wall-thickness, corrosion and maintenance measurements where 0.001mm display resolution is unnecessary.
QC and Statistics Modes
-
QC mode: Set upper and lower limits for rapid PASS/NG evaluation during repeated inspection.
-
Statistics mode: Calculates maximum, minimum and average values to evaluate thickness variation across a component or inspection area.
Bluetooth App and PC Software
A built-in Bluetooth module connects the gauge to the Android mobile app for storing and sharing measurement data. PC software supports online thickness measurement, data management and direct export to Excel for inspection records and reports.
Onboard Data and Material Settings
Up to 999 measurement results can be stored in the instrument. Built-in sound velocities cover commonly tested materials such as steel, iron, aluminum, copper, plastic, ceramics and acrylic. Users can also save 18 custom sound-velocity values for additional materials.

Measurement Requirements
Ultrasonic couplant is required between the probe and test surface. The material must transmit ultrasound, and the rear surface should be parallel or coaxial with the measured surface to produce a usable echo. Probe selection should match the material structure, contact area, thickness range and surface temperature.
