The OWON SPE8105 and SPE8205 are single-channel programmable DC power supplies with an 80V maximum output and a 500W power envelope. The SPE8105 supplies up to 10A with higher current-setting and readback accuracy, while the SPE8205 extends the output range to 20A for higher-current devices and test loads.

Programmable CV and CC operation, List sequence output and real-time voltage/current curve monitoring support battery testing, electronic module development, product aging and automated functional verification. The compact enclosure and 2.8-inch IPS display provide a practical interface for laboratory and production benches.

Key Features

  • Up to 80V output: Supports higher-voltage electronic modules, battery systems, communication equipment and industrial control devices.
  • 500W maximum output power: Provides substantial power capacity in a compact single-channel bench instrument.
  • 10A or 20A configurations: Choose the SPE8105 for higher current accuracy or the SPE8205 for greater current capacity.
  • CV and CC regulation: Automatically transitions between Constant Voltage and Constant Current operation according to the connected load.
  • 10mV/1mA programming resolution: Supports controlled voltage and current adjustment for repeatable test conditions.
  • Programmable List output: Generates predefined voltage or current sequences for dynamic simulation, aging and automated functional testing.
  • Real-time curve monitoring: Displays voltage and current changes during testing to assist with stability and load-behavior analysis.
  • OVP, OCP and OTP protection: Protects the power supply and connected equipment against excessive voltage, current and temperature.
  • Low ripple and noise: Output noise is specified at up to 50mV peak-to-peak for voltage and 15mA peak-to-peak for current.
  • SCPI automation: Supports integration with PC software, production systems and custom automated test applications.

500W Output Envelope

Both models have a maximum output power of 500W. Maximum voltage and maximum current are therefore not available simultaneously when their product would exceed 500W. Output voltage and current remain within the instrument’s rated power envelope.

  • SPE8105: 0–80V, 0–10A and up to 500W.
  • SPE8205: 0–80V, 0–20A and up to 500W.

For example, the SPE8205 can provide its full 20A current at output voltages up to 25V before reaching the 500W power limit.

CV and CC Operation

Constant Voltage mode maintains the programmed output voltage while the load remains below the current limit. When the connected device requires more current than the selected limit, the supply transitions to Constant Current mode to regulate the output safely.

This automatic CV/CC behavior supports power-up testing, current-limited circuit development, battery work and protection testing of electronic assemblies.

Programmable List Output

List Waveform Editing Output allows users to create sequences containing different voltage or current levels. The supply runs the programmed steps automatically, reducing manual adjustment during repetitive or time-dependent tests.

Typical List applications include:

  • Product aging and burn-in procedures
  • Battery voltage simulation
  • Power-cycle and start-up testing
  • Dynamic input-voltage verification
  • Automated functional testing
  • Production-line test sequences

Output Monitoring

The built-in curve display plots output voltage and current over time. This helps users observe power-up behavior, load changes and current-limit transitions directly on the instrument during development and troubleshooting.

Four groups of instrument data can be stored for recurring test setups, reducing configuration time when switching between commonly used output conditions.

Measurement Performance

  • Setting resolution: 10mV voltage and 1mA current.
  • Readback resolution: 10mV voltage and 1mA current.
  • Voltage setting accuracy: ≤0.05% ±20mV.
  • Voltage readback accuracy: ≤0.05% ±20mV.
  • SPE8105 current accuracy: ≤0.05% ±10mA for setting and readback.
  • SPE8205 current accuracy: ≤0.05% ±20mA for setting and readback.
  • Load and line regulation: ≤20mV for voltage and ≤10mA for current.
  • Transient response: ≤5ms for a 50% to 100% rated-load change.

Connectivity and Automation

SCPI commands support remote configuration, output control and measurement readback. The supply is available with a selectable communication interface—USB Device, RS232, RS485 or LAN—to match the control system used in the laboratory or production environment.

PC software can be used to configure the supply, monitor output data and run repeatable test procedures without operating every step from the front panel.

Applications

  • Battery and battery-management system testing
  • Electronic module development and verification
  • DC-DC converter and regulator testing
  • Communication and industrial electronics
  • Product aging and burn-in testing
  • Production-line functional testing
  • Maintenance and fault diagnosis
  • Engineering education and laboratory exercises

Choose Between the SPE8105 and SPE8205

  • SPE8105: Select this model for loads up to 10A when higher current-setting and readback accuracy are the priority.
  • SPE8205: Select this model for applications requiring currents above 10A and up to 20A within the 500W power envelope.

Both models provide the same 80V maximum output, 500W power capacity, 10mV/1mA resolution, List sequencing, curve monitoring and programmable CV/CC operation.

Why Choose the SPE8105 or SPE8205?

The SPE8105 and SPE8205 combine high output power, programmable sequencing and automated control in a compact single-channel supply. The choice between higher current accuracy and greater current capacity allows the power source to be matched directly to the intended DUT and test procedure.
